I wish I had a nickel for every time I was asked, "Martin, you invented the Tour Striker, and it makes sense for the irons, but how do we apply that principle to the driver?"

It is pretty easy to understand applying shaft lean when the ball is left centered in our stance and resting on the ground. I know most of you have figured that out. Perhaps you can't do it yet, but you are on the right path.

Here are some insights on how to use Tour Striker fundamentals when hitting your driver:The photo above is an overview of the long hitting, JB Holmes, from the PGA Tour. Everyone knows that when JB steps up to the ball, the ball starts to shiver and knows it is about to be squashed! The picture tells a great story and it is pretty hard to argue.

The red line is there to indicate an extension of the club shaft while the green line is there to indicate an extension of the outside edge or the left arm. In the top photo, you can see that the club shaft hasn't even come close to catching up to the plane of the left arm and the ball is already on a trip longer than most of us will take this Holiday season.Oh, and to add another element of interest to this picture, JB hits slightly UP on the ball a couple of degrees. Hitting up on the ball has its benefits if done correctly and JB clearly does it correctly. The Tour average, incase you care, is about 1 degree DOWNWARD.Ok, so why am I telling you all this? The shaded area between the lines shows you the difference between shaft and plane of the left arm at impact. Now to bend your mind a little more, take a look at the "before" picture (left) or address picture:

Yes, you see the green and red lines like in the top picture, but did you notice how the green line is now IN FRONT of the red line in the impact photo? It really shows you how much lag JB retains into the impact area. That red line (club shaft) is trying to catch the green line (outside plane of the left arm) sooooo badly, and while doing so absolutely CRUSHES a golf ball on the way!This is unbridled, free wheeling, FORWARD SHAFT LEAN in its best example. No holding on here people. This motion is going to wrap him into a committed finish every time.So, Tour Strikers out there, here is an example of how you can deliver the leaning shaft to the ball while the ball is on a tee. You could say, "Martin, that shaft isn't leaning!" I'd say it sure is in relation to the lead arm! While it is trying to pass it by, it clearly hasn't.That folks is Tour Striker 101

Chris, thanks so much for taking the time to write me a note. It's stuff like this that really makes my day. I'm glad you are starting to "get it" and that your impact is getting better. You'll be playing and contributing in those Pro Ams in no time at all.

When you feel you have the hang of the 8, you might want to try the 7 version. It's harder, but worth the effort to understand and hit.

I had been slicing the driver the worst. I was terrified of that club. It was my enemy. I had had a rather discouraging lesson with my coach the day before that was specifically aimed at fixing it. But the session was so unproductive he didn't charge me for it! Once I got a feel for the Tourstriker swing today and saw the results however I had to try the new swing out on the driver. I can only say I didn't hit a single ball during the coaching session yesterday nearly as well as I hit ALL the 15 or so drives I hit adapting the Tourstriker swing to the driver. Most had no slice or minimal slice that would have left the ball playable. I'm thinking that with a few more range sessions I may be playing something resembling golf.

I'm a believer. This thing gets a spot in my bag. I'll be practicing with it frequently. Thanks for dreaming it up.

I have your Maximizing Distance Vol#1, and never really tried your closed face address drill till today. It really worked right off the bat, and I hit the tour striker 100%. No more deep divots, more shallow. I don't know if the drill works this fast, but I tried it and had it within 10 mins. All I did was swing in tempo with this drill, and bam it worked...Thanks so much for all of your help Martin maybe my clubface was a big issue . Please schedule a few training seminars in South Bend Indiana or the Chicagoland area.

Shallowing out your swing is a path thing that is tied to clubface. You won't shallow (more inside out path) unless the face provides for a tolerable shot. It's likely that you have an open face and your steep downward action is your attempt to help square the face. It sounds like you might need a grip adjustment so the face is more closed encouraging more inside out path.

I have just shot a video for revolutiongolf.com where I talk about being an "educated" picker. Learn how to hit the TS w/out hitting the ground very hard. My preference is that you have a shallow angle of attack WITH forward lean.

Shallow AoA + Forward Lean = Great shots!

Hi Kathy,

Thanks for the note.

The learning curve with the TS takes a few steps.

1. You realize that a shaft leaning a tiny bit has advantages over a vertical or rearward leaning shaft.

2. The rounded leading edge on the club lets you hit the ground without fear of taking a big divot or hurting yourself. Divots don't hurt if they are taken correctly, with a forward leaning shaft.

3. Overcoming the fear of touching the ground will develop your "low point control." Fancy phrase for where your club touches the ground. Hopefully that point is at and on the target side of the ball.

Start off with half swings, waist high to waist high and touch the ground. Put a ball down and repeat. When you gain some confidence, go ahead and hit fuller shots.

I just purchased the Women's Tour Striker and am anxious to try it. I have been playing for about 6 months now and I have a tremendous problem of topping the ball and just not making consistent contact with the ball to be able to get it into the air. What can I do to improve this and will the Tour Striker help me correct the making better contact with the ground and getting the ball up into the air and at least traveling some distance rather than scooting more across the ground.

Yes, your can overdue it. The key is to "swing" the club freely with the undoing of the angles so you "get" the great look and inline condition. Nothing should be "held" or force...just encouraged!

Hi Trey, glad you had fun in your matches. Very cool.

I'm a big fan of BC and his book. The aiming point concept can cause some confusion and trouble though. My preference for "aiming point" is simply to understand that your hands don't return to the same place they began. In most cases, better players start with mid-body hands and their impact hand location is forward of where they started. I don't want my students to "aim" their hands at some forward location as I've found this to be more trouble than good.

Martin Chuck's version of aiming point: eyes on the ball, mind in the hands and periphery on the target side of the ball (future divot). You can look at the ball and anticipate the divot with your peripheral vision. Bam: solid shot.

At some point the shaft has to line up with the left arm. Some "aiming point" folks take the "aiming" too far and stifle freedom required to play great golf with the longer clubs.

Tour Striker Question

Hi Larry,

I hear you are an inside out guy:)

Why do people swing too far inside out?

1. The face is closed

2. The grip is too strong (the face is closed)

Open face players do not swing inside out very often. That shot goes right to right and hits a bunch of houses or corn fields. Better players get the club going too inside out because their strong body move gets the club mass stuck behind them during the downswing.

Things to look out for:

1. Take a good look at your grip

2. Take a look at what your forearm and wrist are doing during the backswing (are you getting the face closed?)

Simple drills:

1. roll up a big beach towel so you get a "towel roll" and use it as a plane board. Set it parallel to your target line, but only slightly inside the heel of your club. Hit shots and don't hit the towel.

I can't tell you what a pleasure it has been so far, I love the game and now am seriously enjoying it. I hope I can attend one of the schools in Arizona (a short drive from Texas) as I imagine I have only discovered a small % of what "striking" the ball can do for my game.

I started playing golf about 9 years ago or so. Never really took lessons until I had played for a while and then only a few (not recommended). I thought I was emulating a two plane swing. Got to the mid 90's or so and just couldn't make any more progress. In addition, I just couldn't understand why my shots were always much shorter than others I played with.

My brother mentioned to me that it looked like I had the tendencies of a one plane swing which he had switched to. He is basically a scratch golfer so I asked him to teach me the one plane swing. I have been working with him for about a year. He kept telling how important the grip was and that I needed to feel that lag in my grip but I just couldn't seem to get the feel. I was always to handsy in my shots but just couldn't feel it.

After purchasing the Tour Striker 8 iron recommended for high handicappers I watched the video very carefully several times. Besides all the other excellent information Martin has on the video I was particularly struck by the description of the feel of the lag. Martin's statement to have your eyes on the ball and your mind in your grip is right on. It was exactly what my brother has been trying to get through my head. I also watched the section on grip several more times and can simply not believe the difference that it has made to build the grip from the impact position up rather than from the stance position. This has had an enormous impact on hitting the ball much more consistently, on target, and with the correct impact position.

I took the Tour Striker to the back yard and hit plastic golf balls with it for a few days. I then took it to the driving range and hit a bucket of balls just before a round of golf, alternating between hitting a few with the 8 iron Tour Striker and my Ping K15 8 iron.

I can not put into words the dramatic difference this has made in the very, very short time I have had it (about a week). I went to the driving range today and practiced some more with the Tour Striker, again alternating between the Tour Striker and, this time, my Ping K15 7 iron. After I would get consistent hitting the Tour Striker well I would switch to my 7 iron.

I have been normally hitting my 7 iron roughly 130 to 140 yards at best. Today I was hitting it between 165 to 175 yards.

Martin states that it is all you can do to pivot your core and hold on to the lag in your grip/club. By focusing hard and doing this there is an added bonus. Your core is trying to out race your hands to keep the lag pressure and it is almost impossible to end up on your right leg (reverse pivot). It forces you to follow through and end up with your weight on your left leg. In addition, as he mentions, you don't get the feel that you are swinging as fast but you are swinging with abandon because your core is turning hard to keep in front of your hands. Feels slower but hits much harder!!!

WOW. Just had to tell you that this has got to be the best thing I have ever done for my golf game. Looking forward to working with it more and improving my game.

Your George Knudson tribute DVD was excellent. I spent many hours watching George play in the '70's in New Orleans at Lakewood C.C. in the New Orleans Open - it really brought back memories of his great techinique and ballstriking. I could tell that this DVD was a labor of love on your part. I really did not expect to see the volume of detail you went into regarding the lessons you received from George. I too wanted to take lessons from George in the late 80's and sent him a long letter (via Lorne Rubenstein) reminiscing about the rounds I'd seen him play. Tragically, George was critically ill at the time and could not particpate in the lessons that I dreamed of years before. He did have Lorne write me a very thoughtful reply (that I still have as a keepsake...)

Since I probably will not be able to take part in the Tour Striker academies until Spring of next year, I'm wondering if you offer Internet lessons. If so, please let me know the details regarding cost, filming angles, etc. Thanks again for the great video on George.

In my opinion there should not be a junior golfer swinging anything but this club at the range, think about how much better the average golfer would be if this club was a prerequisite for a summer or two...as a kid I would have taken to this club instantly. Not to mention the instructional DVD is worth the price of the club alone. I've started recommending it to a few friends but almost wanna keep the secret to myself selfishly.

My only wish is a lie board was included because these are so hard to track down and people think you've lost your mind for wanting to practice off one.

D, nice playing!

You can feel the gentle push of the right arm at all times. My right arm is always pushing (lifeline of right hand onto left thumb) even at address. At address, my right shoulder is lower than my left shoulder allowing my right elbow to be bent yet still keeping the gentle push on the left thumb.

Don't bend the right arm with the right arm:)

What I like about the Tour Striker is that one has to find a way to hit the ball correctly (with hands ahead of the clubhead at impact), there just is no other option. Hi Jeff, thanks for buying the TS. You are the "educated picker." You have good hand eye coordination and use it. GREAT for juggling, but not the best for golf.

Keep using the club. You'll have a breakthrough with it. Start with 9 to 3 swings with soft wrists and touch the ground with the leading edge closer to the ground at impact than you had at address.

You'll be striping it in no time!

JB, sorry for the delay.

The face has a huge impact on swing path. Guy who get to the top with an open face quickly realize that an on plane path will hit the ball to the right, so they come over the top to help hit it straighter. Some open face guys can square it up on the way down and use a neutral path.

Same goes for closed face guys; they get swinging it too much inside out and and shallow. They need to feel like they can get OTT.

Regarding deep divots; you are likely a little steep and have an outside in path. Roll up a bath towel and use it as a towel plane board. Set it parallel to your path, but just barely off the heel of your club. Hit some balls and see if you don't hit the towel after impact. I get a little steep too.

Outside in paths = deep divots. Inside out = shallow divots

The awkward left wrist is actually only awkward until it starts feeling normal. Change is not easy and most grips pare indeed not right. My left wrist is vertical and cupped at address.
4. In your video, you mentioned that at impact position, the butt is hidden under the forearm and the the palm groove (lifeline) is over the butt. No problem. But am not clear where the clubface is facing at this point.I imagine perpendicular to the ball and target line?Yes.

5. I get the best iron hits with the TS with my eyes on top of the ball. But not for hybrids and woods - where should be? Back of ball? Likewise eyes top of ball didn't work for the TS wedge - eyes on front of the ball? Some low handicapper friends advise me to always look at a spot one or two balls distance from the actual ball? Looking ahead of the ball is a way to trick your sequence so you deliver the club a fraction later, with a little more lag and shaft lean. Eventually, you won't have to do this, but it is a decent drill to gain some command of what happens with a decent strike. Moving your head (eyes) around is fine. You'll find your eyes are more to the right of the ball for longer clubs.
6. Last Q - for the downswing transition trigger, do you bump left hip laterally (to bring right shoulder down and right elbow into the slot) then only to rotate left hip through OR you just rotate left hip through (no initial lateral shift) from the top? My simple thought is to "step" onto my left foot. That bumps and drops things nicely. If you keep your arms organized during your backswing, you won't have to do much to get them to the the ball. If you over swing, then you may have to concern yourself with your right elbow...

Your experience is pretty common. You made a sequence change with your pivot and the result was better delivery of the club. In your case, your pivot change likely took more angle (lag) into impact.

What I like about the TS; I don't care how you make it work. Find your own way. The reason it helps people is simple; you don't have to worry about laying the sod over the ball while you are sorting out shaft lean and then low point. It frees golfers up to learn, which is what makes me happy.

Originally I struggled with which product to buy....but I'm glad I chose the Pro model.....probably much more difficult to hit initially...however a much more rewarding experience.....needless to say I've encountered a few challenges along the way....

1) Initially while trying to hit off grass....I was totally frustrated and almost gave up the tool...until I moved to hitting off driving range mats...

2) When I moved to grass again I had to go back and forth from mat to grass...several times...to experience solid contact again...

3) Of all the fundamental techniques you teach....the left hand importance took the most time to sink in....

4) Recently while working on grooving my driver swing, I had not swung an iron for a few days....I temporarily lost my focus and was unable to execute a proper swing with a 5 iron....I went back to your DVD instructions...back to your basic set up and techniques...and BINGO!!! right back on track with the Pro 7 and all my irons....

I guess those are the highlights of my experience so far....oh yes...and the most important benefit of your product in my mind...is the confidence it helps instill....

I recently played in a local event...where on the first tee they were announcing the players by name and home town...as they prepared to tee off.....

I have to tell you that normally I would have been paralyzed by fear.....but instead I felt no anxiety...went through my routine and smoked a drive right down the middle...

what a thrill !!!

I have tried many training aids over the last 30 years and have never been so impressed as I am with your product. I am a 4 handicap and purchased the pro 7 iron this past January. I bought it for two reasons, at the course I play, it is mats only on the driving range during the winter and I didn't want to hit my clubs off the mats. I thought this will encourage me to practice and not risk any damage to my clubs. Secondly, and most importantly, I am a "flipper" I didn't hit down on the ball. I tended to pick the ball off the turf. I have had multiple lessons and tried most everything to learn to hit down on the ball.

I took the Tour Striker to the range a couple of times a week and would hit about 25 balls at a time. The results have been amazing. I am at least 1 or 2 clubs longer and surprisingly to me, much straighter. Your product teaches you the right positions you need to get to, in order to hit the ball correctly. Stick with it and it will teach you many things about the swing.

My only complaint is, I have had to redo my yardages due to the increase in distance I have gained. I enjoy showing the club to other members at my club and everyone wants to try it. I am looking forward to getting a Tour Striker wedge sometime in the future.

I'm glad you are having some success. Let's keep building on it.

Don't worry about having perfect divots. The turf conditions and club dictate divots in a lot of cases. As Moe Norman said, bacon strips not pork chops. If the shots feel solid, that is what you want.

With your SW; it is likely you used some throwaway. With my short game DVD, I talk about the "Tom Watson mid-sole pitch." That is a different move than the "Lee Trevino leading edge pitch." The Lee Trevino is all Tour Striker and it has its place in the wedge game. The Tom Watson version with a little throw is good as it adds some loft and takes off a bit of "hit" and spin. While spin is sexy, it is unpredictable. So, don't necessarily give up the gentle toss you used with your short wedge shots.

Question #1:

(1) I am now hitting my irons straighter and longer with only a 3/4 back swing. However, I am having a hard time taking a divot with my irons. I have tried
focusing on the area in front of the ball at address and attempting to take a divot there. This works on an infrequent basis.

Question #2:

(2) I am not as consistent as I used to be with my sand wedge from 10 to 15 yards away. I feel as though I am not finishing on my follow through.
I felt like one solution to this would be to concentrate on turning my hands on the follow through.

This does seem to help but I do not want to get back in to the habit of casting my hands on the follow through.

The 1st Round at Augusta - Bombs Away!

I'd be lying to you all if I told you I watched the entire event today. I did tune in over the internet and I was surprised how good the coverage was at Masters.com. I could bounce around and watch different groups. What an age we live in. I guess all "ages" say the same thing.

I was really impressed with Alvaro Quiros. The guy brings back memories of Seve. I was a Seve fanatic as a young golfer. I love the intensity with which he played and I see some of that in Quiros. Not to mention, that the guy can hit the cover off the ball.

The group feature Jonny Vegas, Gary Woodland and Quiros. Bombers all three of them. Hitting the ball far is sexy; plain and simple. I'm not sure if it is the possibility for disaster that makes it so fun or just the jealously I have for that kind of speed? Let's face it; Cory Pavin is an excellent player, but he doesn't get you all fired up. Bombing it is really fun.

Can't wait for tomorrow to see what Rory, et all can do. Tiger? Lurking...

My first Masters memory...

Okay, if you are reading this, you are just like me; a love of the game and a complete golf nerd.

There is something special about the Masters. Well, there are too many things to mention. If you haven't had the chance to attend the tournament, please put it on your bucket list. It is truly a moving experience. I have had the pleasure of going twice and it was fantastic.

I really don't care who wins, but I do want to see the drama on the last nine holes. I can remember the first time I got really pumped up about a golf tournament. It was when Tom Watson, Ed Snead and one Forrest Urban Zoeller took the tournament to sudden death. I was a young kid at the time and my mother was calling me for dinner, but nothing was going to get me to the dinner table without finding out who won that event.

As we all know, Fuzzy canned a birdie putt in OT to take the title.

That was the day for me. I was hooked.

Enjoy the tournament and here's to us all getting goosebumps on Sunday afternoon.

I have had the tour striker for two weeks. I’ve been working with it every other day to build up muscle memory. Hitting down on the ball is what all or some instructors tell you to do.
The tour striker is the best training tool in the world. Today I bet some guys that had always bet me. My striking was so good I couldn't stand it. The one shot that stays with me was a par three 135 yards, I hit last after the first three guys hit and missed the green. I hit a 7 iron and got it up right at the flag putting birdie. The other guys bogeyed the hole..

Hooking the Tour Striker

Hi Franco,

I'm glad you like the training club!

Using the club promotes forward shaft lean. The forward lean promotes an inside out swing path. Too much inside out, if the face is square or only open a little to the target line will produce the hook.

So, you can do a couple of things:

1. If you want to hit a straighter ball, you have to swing more left through the ball. I know this seems counter intuitive, but swinging left for a person who hits hooks will not only adjust the path to a more correct relationship, but it tends to minimize how much the face rotates.

2. You can allow the face to be a little more open at impact and enjoy a big draw back to the target line. My preference is number 1 above.

I'm really excited about the changes in your life - including your upcoming academy. I will continue to check tourstriker.com for updates.
Do you have time for a free question? (I try to limit myself to one a year.) The super slow motion TV shots really do show the forward leaning club angle that you preach. I was going to post my question on WRX but there are always a million different answers which can be confusing.
Here goes: is the bottom of the swing arc usually in the same spot for all clubs (or at least all irons) or does it move forward as one goes to the longer irons? IF it is the same then I don't understand why traditional instruction suggests moving the ball forward as you go to these longer irons. If the the bottom of the arc does move then I guess it all makes sense to me. (There is still snow on the ground here so it's tough for me to actually go try this.)
My current efforts are concentrated on hitting the little ball first. Finding the bottom of my natural arc seems like a good first step. Concentrating on the the front (toward target) of the ball or even an inch or two in front of it is an approach I'm considering. Any thoughts on this?

Bob, thanks for the question. I'm a fan of playing all STANDARD shots from one ball position. I don't like to "move" the ball back for short irons. Here's why: when you do, you hit down too much and the path tends to me too much inside-out.

So, play those irons off the instep of your left foot and drop your right foot back, as needed, to accomodate for the different length clubs and greater need for stability.

The "low point" will take on different looks as the clubs get longer. It's hard to take an on-plane divot with a three wood. While I still try and hit down on all shots played off the turf, my divots gradually shallower as I go from wedges to long irons. The long irons are more of a sweep with a tiny, shallow divot, if any at all. And, this is "trying" to take a divot (on plane).

Keep the "noise" of your swing in the right place and you'll likely keep the low-point in the right place too. What do I mean by that? The club and left arm shoot naturally seek an alignment in front of your forward foot, after the ball is gone. That is where you will here the maximum "whoosh" of the club cutting through the air. Keep the "noise" at and past your left foot and you'll manage your low-point nicely!

The main point of the thread: conscious roll to square the face: I'm a pretty good striker and I don't consciously think of squaring the face at all. I do, however, feel as though if I hold off the finish a bit I can cut it a wee bit and if I try and lean the shaft a bit more, I will draw in. Just personal feel. Conscious roll during impact tells me that there are some poor grips and perhaps to much "roll" going back.

On the distance/power bits...

IMO, most of the bad country club swings I see are not enough hands and arms and too much body.

The educating of the arms and hands is the most left out thing in golf. Nobody wants to take responsibility for learning the "intricate" motions. Juggling? Pretty intricate motion of the wrists/arm/hands and support from the body. Once you drop a bunch of balls, the hands "learn" how to anticipate and react and it all starts looking pretty good. Same thing for the golf swing.

HBG, you know you can stand on one foot and hit it farther than most of your club golfers or students. Why?

I can hit it 230 or 240 (two bills plus in the air and whatever the ground gives me) with my educated arms/hands and shoulder turn, standing on one foot. Not trying to brag, just sharing some stuff. With two feet on the ground and some pivot to help help drive the arms and hands (pp4) I can hit it 270-300; nothing to write home about. So my hip turn and ground force adds about 20% to my power equation.

With me, it's 80% arms/hands/shoulders and 20% legs and pivot thrust and I don't try and roll anything. I've learned how to do it, so I don't have to think about it. That's what I want for most of you guys.

People like to aim the face at the target. In reality where the clubface aims at address means nothing. We want the face square during impact. It's okay to have a closed face at address, but most people will manipulate their left arm to get it aiming at the target.

Thanks for the kind note. I’m glad you like the club. You are about the 100^th person to ask about the shaft! It’s a Femco product that best resembles the KBS 90 shaft. I like the stepping and feel of the shaft. While a ton of folks like DG’s, I’ve always been a Precision/Rifle guy. As far as what OEM has a similar feel? It’s really the center of gravity that you like; most companies want it low to help. I want it high, not to help. Evil? Yes, but you are learning how to get the club on the ball correctly now.

I’ve a bit Titleist fan and while I play blades, I would recommend their AP1 or AP2 product with the KBS 90 (S or R, depending on how you load it during transition).

On that note, I’m designing a set of TS clubs that will be available in the Fall or worst case Q1 of 2012.

Even though we are still very early in the golf season here, I’ve had the opportunity to practice with the club on the course and it’s GREAT. I bought the 7x, stock, even though I am a mid-handicapper, and I’ve had fairly good success. In fact (and this is the reason for my question) when I hit it well, the results in distance and accuracy FAR SURPASS my normal 7 iron (when also hit well). I game Mizuno MP-29s and although the loft, etc may be slightly different with the TS 7x, it does lead to a couple of questions:

1. Can you tell me what shaft is in the 7x? I have s300 in the 29s and I think I prefer the feel of the TS.

2. I’ve never liked cavity backed clubs—mostly because of feel and looks, although I’m sure I would get better results—but the TS has made me think hard about switching. If you could say, ____ irons are closest to an OEM model of the Tour Striker, what would it be?

got my tour strikers in the mail yesterday (Order Number : 142635) and i have to say i am impressed. it is difficult to tell online what the actual quality of a product is, and i'm happy to report that the tour striker exceeded my expectations!

as i have a lingering back injury, i was unable to practice with full swings as of yet, but just by hitting pitches and chips with the 56 degree, i can already feel like my hands will be in a better position at impact. i had self-diagnosed my primary swing flaw (an occasional flip that crops up at the most inopportune times), and when i saw your infomercial i knew it was going to help me address that issue. i will report back with my progess, once i get healed up.

I’m thrilled that the club has helped you! That is awesome. There is nothing wrong with starting in an inline “impact” condition other than you can lose some of the “buggy whip” and lag created during the backswing. I would encourage you to hit one in your impact condition and then hit a ball in a “mid-body” hands position and see if you can feel what I mean. The mid-body position allows for more the possibility of more lag and pressure on the club.

thanks for the note, things get better and better, my driver swing speed has gone up from mid 80's with the occasional low 90's to a consistent 105/107 and a much improved ball flight.

Consistency of strike with my irons is as different as chalk and cheese, and using the Tour Striker wedge has improved my short game and I am getting consistent contact.

Bonus is no more back pain or left elbow pain after practice or play.

Everything seems far more controlled and ordered and I can "feel" what is happening i.e. weight transfer and pressure into my right thigh on take away and for the first time the stretching of the muscle's in the left side of my back , weight transfer onto my left on the down swing and the feel of the club head staying back.

I am in two minds as to order the Pro 7 Iron or the Pro X7 any advice appreciated.

I saw on the web you are about to launch a bit of kit which looked similar to the Swingrite but from the clip I saw seems a lot better, do you have a release date for this yet as I would like to try one.

Believe it or not I have found a health benefit through using the club as well, I am a smoker and I have a mat and a net outside, when I went out for a smoke I would hit a handful of balls. Since practising with the Tour Striker I don't enjoy smoking as much as I do making good club / ball contact so I hit 25 balls and don't bother with the cigarette.

I suppose you could say the club is not only game changing it's life changing.

my tour striker arrived in the UK yesterday 10 days after order which is pretty quick

I have practised with the 8 iron for about half an hour and ended 10 years frustration.

After an initial few swings everything appeared to change naturally and I started to make solid contact which was great.

However after a short time I became very aware of a different feel of my swing and for the first time ever I was conscious of what was happening, a revelation.

I then made a fundamental error and arrived at my local range with the club, after a short while my teaching pro arrived watched a few swings and commandeered the club for a "try". The try has become an extended loan and the club is destined to be deployed as a teaching aid with access allowed to myself when ever I want until he can place an order for his own.

Consensus is the club is the armature golfer's equivalent to sliced bread to a sandwich maker.

I look forward to continued improvement and the time I am able to take the next step and order the Pro 5 & 7 Irons.

Question regarding tour sticker applicability to the driver

Dear Bruce,

Great question!

The angle of attack of the driver for the PGA Tour is -1.5 degrees of
downward strike. The Long Drive specialist have an upward strike of up
to 5.0 degrees. There is a big difference on how guys/gals come into the
ball with a driver. The one thing that they all share at this skill
level is that the shaft of the club is still behind the outside plane of
the left arm. So, the club is still trailing the hands at impact. How do
they do this? The spine tilt away from the target is very important.
Some can actually hit up without flipping the club. I actually address
this question in my Continuing Education Servies DVD - Maximizing
Distance.

The Tour Striker certainly helps a lot with all balls hit off the ground
and it can give you the right feel for striking a shot off a tee where
you have the opportunity to "get under" the ball. You can apply the same
TS feel with a ball on the tee, you have to feel your rotating hips get
closer to the target which will give you the spine tilt to hit up while
maintaining sound impact alignments.

Tour Striker Swing Tip

Jeff, If I were coaching you, I’d work on your width in small increments. I like your action, but you get super “narrow” at during transition and into the downswing as this pic shows. This is a good player swing problem, ala Phil Mickelson. I’d have you wear a kids water wing on your right elbow (Walmart; couple of bucks) and hit shots while trying not to squeeze it much. Your arms would be a bit more in front of your chest and your elbows a tiny bit closer together, allowing for a more leftward path through the ball.

Brian, thanks for the kind words. I'm glad the DVD has helped you and that the TS Pro is making a positive difference in your game. That question comes up a lot. The grip should be based around impact and that goes for the driver as well. You want the hands to support the blow. Hitting level or slightly up on the driver is great and the difference between down and up is fractional. Think about a clock; five minutes on a clock face is thirty degrees but the feel is very different, even for two degrees! The long drivers hit up on the ball, the equivalent of "1-minute" or 5-6 degrees. The PGA Tour is about level, even a degree downward.

Net answer: use your new grip and new feels and I bet you hit longer more compressed drives. Don't try and hit up or down.

Enjoyed speaking with you by phone yesterday. Tried out the product this afternoon and WOW - did I have some work to do! After 25 or so balls, I finally started getting them in flight. Plan on using this training tool as often as possible until I've burned the swing into muscle memory. I recently purchased Volume 1- Maximizing Distance from the Tour Striker Education Series. Martin Chuck does great job of explaining the principles on becoming a better ball striker. His mechanics and fundamentals are easy to follow. I carried his principles over to my practice sessions and instantly was striking the ball better than ever. In the video, examples are done mostly with the driver but have carry over using the Tour Striker. I am not claiming to be an expert in rating instruction but am speaking clearly on results I experienced. No, I am not on the payroll, if so I would not be living in this pipe with a dream of some day joing the tour. I think if your looking to strike and compress the ball better with your driver and irons you can't go wrong here. I really enjoyed the way Martin demonstrated from face on and down the line view. He also used great terms to help illustrate his points such as Load the Gun and Buggy whip, move the needle, and the feel of 45's to name a few. I am always looking to improve and thought I would share that this DVD is helping me do so.

Now if I could only hit a 5 foot putt Doah!

I'm a 17 hc got my TSP 7-Iron yesterday took to the range today hit 2 large buckets and after about 5 whacks a was able to make solid contact on about 60% of my shots. With my game I was hesitant to buy the TS Pro vs, Reg TS and was surprised I could hit it. Hope the progress continues .Martin is a great teacher!

Received my 7 iron Pro Tour Striker training club and video about 2 weeks ago. I didn't watch the video for about a week. I just took the Tour Striker to the driving range to check it out. I'm not sure you even need a video with this swing trainer. The Tour Striker did a better training job by itself than any lesson, video, or other swing trainer I have ever tried - and I have tried more than a few. Typically, I use the Tour Striker for 5 to 10 balls on the driving range before I hit the rest of the balls (usually a small bucket). This generally gets my swing right where it needs to be for the round.

So...last weekend I decided to watch the video. The video that came with the Tour Striker helped me just as much, if not more than the Tour Striker. Martin does a terrific job explaining the golf swing and providing visual/feel images that are unique and effective. Thursday and Friday of this week, I shot two of my best rounds ever at my home course, 75 & 76, and it seemed like I could have easily shot 2 or 3 strokes better (I'm currently an 7.8 HCP index). I have picked up 10%-20% added distance on my full swing shots, with improved accuracy and ball flight (slight draw). A BIG thanks for a great product and training video. Best $ I ever spent on golf.

Chunky wedges are no fun at all. It’s hard to remain patient with the hands and sustain the lag. Think of it this way; typically the best players err with a divot too far ahead of the ball and they have “pro” thin shots. The newer golfers err by releasing the lag too early and their lever combination gets too long and they land behind the ball, thus the chunk shot.

Relax and let Mother Nature make the shaft and left arm seek it’s alignment. It will happen beyond the ball. Let the club “squeeze the grape.” I don’t want your hands doing it.

Oh you bet I will see you in Bend this year! Hey Martin, I have been hitting my mid irons (P thru 6) really really well since I have been refining my forward aiming point and practicing with the TS 7 iron. Only shots I still hit a bit fat sometimes are my 54 and 58 degree wedges from 60 to 80 yards out. When I practice it seems i have to move the aiming point forward even more for these clubs but when I played a round today, although I tried to have my hands going forward a lo, I still chunked it twice on critical shots. The divots were perfect shape but just barely short of solid contact. Other than moving my aiming point more forward, any thoughts you can share with me on this?

I was able to buy a 7 iron pro at Carlson's! First time out was pretty good. I hit the tour striker pretty well but tended to hook a bit. I have a question; I have been working hard with the forward aiming point concept. I think I get it. Matter of fact it also works with my tennis strokes! But, I have been playing around with trying to establish the right spot to have as my aiming point. Your videos seem to show you using a point ahead of your left foot but inside the target line. I seem to hook a bit more when using that point. If I use a point well out front but right on the target line (of the ball) things work better.

The trick for me seems to be that I have to keep my mind on my hands rather than on the clubface as I was before. And, training myself to let my hands go that much forward of the ball and still be able to collect the ball on the way through takes some trust!

So, any points you can give me on this would be appreciated before I get too much practice time in. I really like your idea of learning in the sand. Will the repitition of doing this a lot eventually turn into a natural swing? I hope so!

Thanks for your note. The 5 pro is certainly the most challenging of all the Tour Strikers. Of course, the lie you hit from changes the degree of difficulty. As a ten index, I would say, go with the TS Pro 7 and develop the feel of lag, do some of the drills posted on my YouTube channel and follow the guidelines in the included DVD (it's available for free viewing on the Tour Striker website btw...) and you should make some nice strides. If you do want to buy both clubs we offer free shipping when someone buys two units. It is automatically deducted from the purchase price online.

I’ve been stuck as a ten handicap for quite a while now, mostly due to inconsistent ball striking. I’ve been putting in lots of time at the range and practice green, but I wouldn’t necessarily call it “quality” time. I recently received the Tour Striker 7 Iron Pro-X and have taken it to the range several times already after watching the instructional DVD that came with it. I did not get a single ball in the first bucket more than ten feet off the ground! However, I learned quite a bit from those worm burners. I realized that I was definitely flipping the club at impact, and as a result was playing in the dreaded “fourth quadrant”. I was losing the pressure on the grape that I was creating during the transition between backswing and downswing. Armed with this knowledge I attacked the second bucket. Now, not every ball was great, but what a difference! Focusing on “squishing the grape” I managed to compress the ball, get it in the air and contact the ground after the ball. After hitting several very solid shots with the Tour Striker I switched back to my irons and was able to transfer the feeling from the Tour Striker effortlessly. That’s the real beauty of your product, you’re making real swings with a real club. There is no transition curve to apply what you learned to your actual equipment. Needless to say, I’m a firm believer in the value of the Tour Striker and am looking forward to cracking that single digit handicap barrier on the way to scratch! I finally got my tour striker pro. Finally.

First thought – how in the world am I going to hit the ball on the grooves?

The first session – actually not hitting the ball bad. I seem to be hooking this club more than normal.

Second session – I can hit this club pretty well, but still have tendency to hook the club.

Third session – still hooking but I hit some shots that were almost on line.

I like this club and will continue to use it.

I have been watching as many video’s of Martin as I can find on the web. He makes sense to me and explains things in a logical manner.

This weekend I am meeting a friend at the range and he will give the tour striker some swings.

Thanks – it is a great product! It lives up to the hype.

Thank you! I'm a 13 index. Playing for a little over two years, in love with the game. I've been taking lessons and improving steadily, but solid contact comes and goes. I bought the Tour Striker Pro 7i, feeling pretty sure it would help. I watched the video. None of the bare info was super-new to me as my teacher says many of the same things, but (and I was a writing teacher for many years, so I can really appreciate this) the way you said it, hit home. Especially the grape image. I went to the range. I was able to hit the ball with the TSP pretty crisply right away, and then it started to get away from me. Typical.

Then I remembered the grape image. My swing suddenly got very solid. Switched to my own 7 iron, and thwacked it like I never have before, much higher on the face than I usually do. It was frikkin awesome, but that was just the beginning of the best practice session I've ever had.

I received my Tourstriker last week and had positive results from the 1st ball. I already was able to hit a good ball, but have not been able to do so consistently. By the end of my first session the change was translated to my other irons. My distance has increased also. The key for me was the step by step grip instruction on the DVD. I have always had a decent grip, but doing it exactly as instructed brought about instant consistency.

I am always skeptical of golf training aids. There is no magic bullet. Honestly, this is the first I've purchased. But there was enough clarity in the online video to make me believe it might just be the real thing.

Hi Dave,

Sorry for the long delay. Playing a ton of E-mail catch up.

First we don't compress the ball into the ground. That is a myth. We want to hit the ball with the longest lever our body will allow. To do that, a golfer has to have the right intent with the tool in hand. The intent of most players is to try and elevate the ball and thereby destroying maximum leverage at the moment of truth: impact.

So...the Tour Striker helps create the right intent for the golfer; a forward leaning shaft (4*) with a downward strike (4*). All good players have some element of lean and downward strike with balls played off the ground.

Divots are a function of the right intent and are partly due to the golf ball. I don't want people pounding down on the ball. The ball helps to deflect the club INTO the ground when the club is swung with the right intent. If someone is "picking" at the ball, then the clubs orbit has already been established and the ball can't help create the divot.

To make a long story short, it just came to me to move my hands forward sort of even with the ball which is different than what you recommended and for now that seems to be the answer b/c I really want that total confidence that I really know what works as far as being able to execute shot with out second guessing yourself.

Stance: your narrow stance is just fine. The stance will tend to widen as
you select longer clubs. Some great players have played with a very narrow
stance, even with the Driver.

I'm sorry to hear about your back issues. That is no fun at all. My old
mentor, George Knudson, warned against any type of "reverse C" finish. He
always wanted students to relax to full height onto their left side while
fully facing the target. No spine curvature to be "held." The ball is gone,
so relax into a manageable and comfortable position.

Regarding your driver: the slice is a club face issue first and a path issue
second.
The "inside" takeaway means very little to what actually happens at the
ball. Be very careful as to how much you rotate your left forearm. Slicers
often rotate their left forearm too much (clockwise) during their backswing
and cup their left wrist.

If you have the opportunity, please send me a video of your driver swing and
I'll take a look.

As I am taking lessons from the PGA PROFESSIONAL AT THE WORLD GOLFING

My work with my swing started out with a much narrow stance that what you
show on your DVD. And my clubs which are customized are 1 ½ inch longer
than normal. And trying to hit these club with a wider stance is like a
real problem for me and this is also true working with the "Pro Tour
Striker" (a seven iron which is 1 inch longer) that I order from you. My
question is what it your opinion concerning a narrow stance? Essentially,
the outside of my feet are in side of my shoulders OR just about where my
arm pits are. Understand.......? Now, I have a lower back problem if I can
spell it correctly called "Spinal Stenosis"

which affects the lower back. So, ever since my diagnosis I have been
sensitive and wonder to myself how much longer can I play this game b/c I am
only 54.

So, the clubmaker who made these gave me longer shafts for a shorter
swing!!!! He knew about my back problem.

Yesterday, I spoke with your wife, Stacey, and she was so kind and gave me
your e-mail address and phone number. My question which she answered was if
there was is there "Driver" from Tour Striker and b/c all of the models on
the website where irons. The only difference is the ball position for the
driver.

I was having a problem in "dialing in my driver".

Solutions don't come easy and many of my friends tell me that I can't spend
my life on the practice tee on the driving range. I am really trying to
work at it or on it. If I bring my club back on the inside seems like I
tend to slice it with my driver which is different from my irons. One day
perhaps, I figure this out hopefully before my wife comes home from Rio de
Janerio in Brazil.

Hello everyone. I just received my new TS pro (modified for me: 1” over plus 2 deg up) within a week of ordering. Great Service. I took it to the range today, hit it off the mats instead of grass, and within 5 balls was “covering” the ball again. It was a feeling that I had years ago but lost, and even after numerous lessons couldn’t get it back. My handicap index had risen from just over 3 to about 7.5 as I was flipping at the ball instead of hitting down and through it to compress the ball. Well…after hitting about 50 balls with the TS pro, I switched to my own clubs with the immediate effect of watching and feeling the ball coming off my clubs like a rocket, with a lower trajectory and more of a penetrating look to it.

I didn’t expect such an immediate positive result, but this club forces you into the correct position…or else!!!

first off, i want to share that i'm playing the best golf of my life now that i'm using the tour striker (i have the wedge and pro 7 iron). i have received many comments about how my game has improved. i especially like how my iron shots are more stable in the wind. in the last few rounds, i've shot a 76, 79, 80 and 83. the interesting thing about the 80 and 83 is that they were at the Ko'olau Golf course on O'ahu, Hawai'i, which is supposedly one of (if not the hardest) hardest courses in the U.S.. the slope there is over 150. it is said that a person will lose at least as many balls as their handicap, and for both rounds, i lost a total of only 3 balls.

i use the tour striker each time i go to the range, and i use to warm up before a round, even when i can't actually hit balls! it is also quite a conversation piece - each time i use it, someone inevitably asks me about it and requests to try it. i think i must've gotten at least 5 people so far to say that they were going to buy it.

my question is: i've noticed that my 7 iron shaft is starting to bend, probably due to the constant downward hits. i bent it back as best i could, but in hindsight i probably should have taken it to a golf repair shop. would it be okay to have the tour striker reshafted, if necessary? i was thinking of putting a dynamic gold in (stiff), since that it was is in my irons already.

..... Tour Striker + 9-3 drill has literally done more for me, accompanied by instruction from Michael Martin here in Fort Worth, than anything I've ever experienced. My irons are nasty straight, easier to hit with no back pain, and the ball spins like nothing I've ever been able to do. I've dropped from upper 20's to a lower single digit handicap in 1 year from a combo of your product, time, and instruction. Your dedication to product, video (free I might add), and your involvement in the community IS HELPING others, which is more than many golf instructors care about these days, other than the dollar sign.

I'm glad you are enjoying the TS!

I wouldn't run out and buy blades. PING Eye 2's are great irons. They
have always seemed to have a draw tendency when I played them as a
younger man.

Forward shaft lean does promote a right to left shape which is great for
most. If you are "over-drawing" the ball, I would work on your path and
feel like you are swing more across the ball. I always feel like I'm
cutting across the ball and swinging left. That's how I can lean on the
ball with the shaft and not over-draw the ball.

My divots go left and my shot shape is a pretty straight, maybe
baby-fade shot.

I received my TS Pro 7 iron yesterday. Just looking at it, I thought
"how in the heck I'm I going to hit this". But, at the range last night,

normal height. Most importantly, I hit a bunch of really good shots, and
I could really tell when it was hit correctly. Moving back and forth
between the TS and my normal 7 iron, I could see and feel the
difference. Seems like it's going to be a great help for my

Question : Already thinking about adding a second TS to my arsenal.
Would you recommend the 5 iron or the 56 degree wedge? If someone is
having success with the 7 iron, will there be much benefit in having the
wedge? I guess it would be more help with the chipping and pitching,
right?

Love the TS Pro X! Been to the range 3 times and have enjoyed the challenge of the tougher sweet spot to hit! Avg. 1-2 solid out of every 4 or 5 so there is a lot of room for improvement. Reminds me of how I was when I started with the TS Pro 5! Practice routine has been hitting 75% of the bucket with Tour Striker clubs and the other 25% with my normal sticks. I also use a training device on my lead wrist called a tac tic, which clicks if I'm not in a good impact position. The TS's along with the tac tic give me the opportunity to hit balls and get immediate feedback! Love it!!!

My Coach at Golftec is thrilled with the impact position I got in for our last lesson..........told him Tour Striker has helped reinforce what he has been trying to get me to do! See attached pic!

MC, We are hosting a small fundraiser at Brasada Ranch today and some of the tour pros from the Tradition are playing in it. Before the event started Olin Brown was helping out some of the players participating in the event. Everyone was gathering around to watch Olin help this guy out. The guy had zero weight shift and was trying to lift the ball in the air. Olin kept trying to tell him to hit down on the ball to get it airborne. Thanks again for your training aid. Best around. I do have two questions for you. I have created a problem I am having trouble with hooking the ball. The ball will leave straight at the target line and than curve to the left ( Right Handed golfer). I was searching through youtube for your help sessions and ran across the one you gave Mike- In your video you showed how that hitting to far inside to out that you hit out on the toe. To correct it - I was trying to swing more and more to the right. I would like for you to go over the reason why it is out on the toe - I was hitting wonderful long shots and this rascal showed up out of no where. Below I think I have the answer but would like your thoughts also.

When I was hitting well and compressing the ball, I had a closed face at address. I always had a stronger grip. Two weeks ago when I lost my swing. Everyone was telling me that I was hooking the ball because of my grip. I started to open the face at address, however my shots are now all over and my compression of the golf club is awful and I notice that I was having trouble with the tour striker.Then I started to try to fix the problem. I thought I was coming over the top and started to come more inside. My divots were slowly getting more shallow and going more and more to the right and my impact was more to the toe. Distance went down and ball speed was way down. When I was hitting well - my divots were more straight and then to the left. My impact was on the sweet spot or a little inside towards the heal. ( Example of ball speed change - I went from hitting my 6 iron at 175 yards to 160) I saw your video (which I can not find again) about gripping the club at impact position first and then setting the club at address. This shows a closed face at address.(If relaxed) You mention that at first you may hit shots to the left - however as you learn to body tilt the club face will be square at impact. ( You showed Zack as an example) I realize now that I lost my tilt. Will you elaborate on the tilt and being more down the line ?

Again - I love your product. I believe there is at least 10 tour strikers on my range now. I also see you were able to get the tour striker into the PGA superstore in Atlanta GA. Once I can talk my wife into letting me - I will be at you club for some lessons. I personally believe your style of teaching and knowledge is second to none. I ask a lot of questions to the teachers over here about some of your theories and no one has been able to answer them or just avoid answering ( Yes - I am little over the top on this golf curse) The tour striker has taken me to a 40 index to a 10 in a very short time. ( Before my little issue that I have right now) You really need to come out with a video. If you ever need help with the Q & A or structure of the video. I will be more than willing to help. (Yes - I have golf issue) I just love the game.

Hi Adam,

First, thank you!

Second, the TS is clearly making you rotate the face a little more to
try and get the leading edge to a place where you can make the tool
work. Since your normal shot was a cut, you tried to fix the miss with a
leftward path. Now you have a face matching the path, whereas prior, you
had a face open to the path (slice).

Now you need to work on a little "axis tilt" or simply, let your left
hip bump a bit toward the target on the downswing as that will help your
path get a little more rightward to fix the pull.

It sounds like you are on the right path!!!

I am making a set of Tour Striker irons. I've had so many people love
the feel, I figured "why not?" They will be available early 2011. They
will have a tiny "tourstriker" leading edge, but incorporate a lot of
what makes the TS clubs feel so solid.

Also I seem to hit the TS a LOT better than my G10s. So much so that I'm
starting to think that my G10s may not be a good choice for me. I seem
to have to work pretty hard with my G10s to not hit a fade. The TS seems
to take a whole lot less work and accuracy is better. I dont know why
this is. Any chance this thing is USGA legal? Haha

Don’t worry about a divot with the TS Pro. The leading edge is so high, it won’t ever get into the ground. You will simply “smear” the grass. If you expose dirt, that’s fine.

The “sweet” spot on the TS is only a grove above the elevated leading edge. It’s not in the center of the TS face. It’s sounds like you are doing just fineJ

Thank you for inventing this club! My teaching pro in Ohio told me about the Tour Striker, and I immediately ordered one after my lesson with him. I spend 75% of my practice time hitting this club (the Tour Striker Pro) exclusively. Its helping me to address the main swing flaw I have - hitting it too thin.

I have a question: should my goal be to create the same size divot with the
Tour Striker Pro as I do with my other clubs? Obviously it has a lot of bounce and a small sweet spot. Even when I appear to hit the Tour Striker Pro
well (i.e., good ball flight and solid impact sound), I still find it difficult to take more than just a small amount of turf. Often times its just a scrape of grass (as opposed to the dollar bill-sized divot I would take with my other clubs). Occasionally, I'll have a nice divot with my Tour Striker Pro shots, but its still fairly rare. Is this something I should strive for, or should I expect to take a smaller divot with my Tour Striker Pro club?

all of my shots are on the lower half of the clubface, not really in the sweet spot of the club. Something I need to work on as well!)

Not to worry...I won't be filing any lawsuits ;) But that said - I have often wondered why if most clubs are built to "get under" the ball but you aren't supposed to get under the ball....why not build a club that wouldn't let you.

You've done that !!

My wife was famous for saying, "but I don't want to hurt the grass" Once she started learning how to compress the ball she now says, "it's grass - it'll grow back !"

Bought my LH 5-iron TS a month ago and I absolutely LOVE what it's done for my swing. Hitting some of the sweetest shots I've hit in my 23 years golfing. ....now just working on getting more and more consistent. Tempo and lag are becoming automatic. This is the most Brilliant Golf Aid ever developed.

Hi Doc,

A lot of people notice more distance with the TS clubs. Since the TS is
a training club, it is not that important to try and help mishit shots.
We have the CG higher that corresponds to more direct force during the
collision and a little more ball speed. Normal clubmakers can't do that
because it's too unpredictable during an actual round as most golfers
hit the ball all over the face.
